NCAA Tournament Rematches – Second Round

Georgetown defeated Ohio State 82-79 in the 1987 second round

 

 Pennsylvania is now 0-6 when seeded 13 or lower.

 

Bradley's win is their first tournament win since 1986 when they defeated Texas-El Paso 83-65 in the first round.

 

North Carolina is now 3-0 against the Ohio Valley.

Roy Williams is now 17-0 in the first round.  He will be coaching in the second round for the 17th consecutive year.  Here is the list of coaches who have been in the second round for 3 consecutive years.

Murray State loses its tournament record 11th game in a row.

Connecticut is now 14-0 in the first round since the field went to 64 teams in 1985.

George Mason's win over Michigan State is their first in 4 tournament games.

Memphis is now 9-1 when playing in the state of Texas.  Their lone loss was 87-83 against Creighton in the 1962 first round.  They have won their last 9 tournament games played in Texas.

Southern Illinois' 46 points is the fewest points that West Virginia has allowed in 36 tournament games.  Their previous low amount allowed was 50 against Fresno State in the 1982 second round.  It was also the fewest points that Southern Illinois has scored in 13 tournament games.  Their previous low was 59 against Connecticut in the 2002 Sweet Sixteen.

Northern Iowa has lost a first round game each of the last 3 tournaments.  Iowa, Kansas, Pennsylvania, Syracuse, Utah State and Winthrop are the only other teams to lose in the first round last year and this year. 

Georgetown is 25-1 when allowing 60 or fewer points.  Their lone loss was against Wyoming 46-34 in the 1943 National Championship Game.

Arkansas has been every seed from 1 to 12 in the NCAA Tournament.

Northwestern State's win is their first tournament win since 2001 when they defeated 71-67 in the opening round.

Iowa is 0-2 as a #3 seed.

Iowa is 0-7 when scoring 63 or fewer points.

Ohio State is now 5-0 when playing in the state of Ohio.

Arizona wins their first game with a #5 seed or worse.  They are now 1-5 when seeded #5 or lower.

Arizona is now 10-0 when scoring 92 or more points.

Wisconsin is now 0-4 when allowing 80 or more points.
